ENTIRE REFURBISHMENT OF VICTORIAN CONVERSION FLAT WITH DORMER EXTENSION – HAMPSTEAD HEATH

We had the pleasure of transforming a charming flat in a Victorian conversion building, occupying the top two floors with beautiful views over London. This project focused on preserving the historic charm while introducing modern comforts and a natural aesthetic.

The top floor, already featuring a rear dormer extension, needed additional space and light. We added a front dormer extension, carefully matching the neighbouring property’s design to ensure approval in this conservation area. This thoughtful addition not only enhanced its function but also complemented existing architecture.

Upon entering the open-plan top floor, you are welcomed by a sense of space and light. The staircase leads you to a bespoke media unit with marble accents, creating a subtle yet elegant focal point. The expansive kitchen, dining and living area are designed to be both inviting and practical, with a layout that maximizes the lovely views. The new dormer provides ample headroom in the kitchen, while the cleverly designed sloping wall units and island offer additional storage, blending form and function seamlessly.

Inspired by the natural beauty of Hampstead Heath, the design palette features calming greens and earthy tones, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. This connection to nature infuses a sense of tranquillity and relaxation throughout the space.

The downstairs area was thoughtfully redesigned. The old layout was transformed into a modern and functional space. We added an ensuite bathroom to the master bedroom and reconfigured the old kitchen and bathroom into a spacious main bathroom and practical utility room.

Preserving the historical essence was important. We meticulously restored all original fireplaces and introduced decorative cornices, ceiling roses and skirting to maintain the Victorian elegance of the flat.

Custom joinery was a key design element in this project. The entrance cupboard with bench and every wardrobe were designed to enhance both beauty and utility, tailored specifically to the client’s needs and the character of the flat.

The family bathroom is a comfortable retreat, featuring a freestanding bath and a wet room shower area, offering a touch of luxury within a practical design.

This project was a delightful journey of blending the old with the new, creating a living space that is both timeless and contemporary. The result is a beautifully restored Victorian flat meeting modern living standards yet retaining its historic charm, set against the picturesque backdrop of Hampstead Heath.
