Timeless Bathroom Design in Hampstead, London

This project involved the complete redesign of three bathrooms and a guest cloakroom within a private residential development in Hampstead, North London. The apartment had been largely untouched since it was built in the 1980s — the layout still worked, but the spaces themselves no longer reflected the way the family lived.

Rather than making unnecessary structural changes, we focused on what was already generous about these rooms — and what was simply underused. Bespoke joinery and reworked layouts turned overlooked corners — an awkward recess, a stretch of blank wall — into the kind of storage and function that makes a room feel effortless rather than crowded.

Before drawing a single cabinet, we sat down with the clients and talked through the practical reality of each room: who uses it, how they move through it, and what actually needs to live inside it. Storage and mirror heights were considered around the individual users, rather than designed to a standard dimension. We asked what each of them keeps, and where, and built the joinery around those answers — so a drawer is exactly as deep as it needs to be, and a shelf sits exactly where a hand reaches for it. The result is storage that disappears into daily use instead of announcing itself.

Each bathroom has its own character, built from one of two material pairings. The main bathroom and guest cloakroom bring together richly veined natural marble and dark walnut joinery — the marble’s gold and grey striations catching the light differently at every hour, set off by the warmth of the wood and layered lighting designed to draw out that movement in the stone. The two family bathrooms take a quieter approach, pairing high-quality porcelain tiles with light oak veneer, chosen for how gracefully they’ll wear, day after day, for years to come.

What ties the four spaces together isn’t a single material or colour, but a shared sense of quiet luxury — nothing shouts for attention, yet every surface, every light fitting and every drawer was considered with purpose, for this family, in this apartment. Nothing was left to a template.
