Characterful Victorian Home with Curated Vintage Interiors

This Victorian home was designed to celebrate both the character of the building and the personality of its owners. Having spent years collecting vintage furniture, artwork and decorative objects, the clients wanted a home where these pieces could feel truly at home — not simply displayed.

Rather than erasing the property’s existing character, the project embraced and enhanced it. The beautifully aged timber floors were retained to celebrate the house’s history and authenticity, while original architectural features were carefully respected throughout the renovation. Wherever possible, existing elements were kept and thoughtfully reinterpreted, allowing the home to evolve rather than be reinvented from scratch — an approach that preserved the property’s character while reflecting a more considered, sustainable way of designing.

The colour palette was developed around the clients’ collection, allowing their vintage furniture, artwork and objects to sit together harmoniously. To further showcase these pieces, the alcove shelving on either side of the original fireplace was painted a deep green, creating a rich backdrop that enhances the display while lending depth and character to the living room.

The kitchen follows the same philosophy. Rather than replacing it entirely, the existing green cabinetry and timber worktops were retained and complemented with carefully chosen new elements — brass handles, blush-toned panelling and an expressive patterned tile. These thoughtful interventions refreshed the space while preserving its original character, resulting in a kitchen that feels both timeless and full of personality.

Throughout the home, colour was used with intention to create warmth, individuality and cohesion. Carefully balanced combinations of rich tones, natural materials and vintage pieces give each room its own identity, while a harmonious flow runs throughout the house — from the living room and reading corner to the TV room, corridor and bedrooms. Every detail was considered to create an interior that feels layered, welcoming and deeply personal.

Ultimately, this project was never about imposing a particular design style — it was about creating a home that genuinely reflects both the character of the building and the personalities of the people who live in it.
